Canadian Schools

Education in Canada is provided by federal and provincial governments. In some cases education is handled by a local government. Most education is within provincial jurisdiction, and falls under the ministry of education. The province overseen the curriculum, but it is the district school boards that is administering the educational programs.

Canadian education is generally divided into three layers of education. The three layers are, Elementary (Primary School), followed by Secondary (High School) and Post Secondary (University, College). Education is compulsory in Canada. Most provinces have a compulsory age of up to 16 years of age to be in school. Ontario and New Brunswick on the other hand uses 18.

Children in Canada go to school for about 190 school days in a year. The year normally starts in September and go through to June the next year with a few brakes in between.
